Mirrors: shards and spirit.

'as if reflected in a mirror countless times'

When Yoshiro dances on the spirit path, the bits of Goddess power are shards of a special mirror.

You can see her reflection in the pieces.

But they don't reflect all surrounding areas.

It seems they only reflect her and some kaleidoscope imagery?

But I am on PS4 and many many subtle details can't be seen on the console.

The Goddess power is heavily related to mirrors, with Soh's physical form shattering like a mirror and the Goddess Emblem in the main shrine likely being a mirror:

Soh shattering

shrine mirror in the otherworld

I also suspect the little jewels on all masks(and Yoshiro's crown) are mirrors that hold parts of the Goddess's power, allowing Soh to control and guide them. They 'move' the way the shrine mirror does:

Could the Goddess's spirit be in the large mirror in the shrine?  It's very Amaterasu and her scared mirror:
"Serve this mirror as my soul, just as you would serve me, with clean mind and body."

Soh can rewind time in the mirror-like otherworld(the water is the mirror):

Cursed Soh emerges from the water below, the water reflective like a mirror.

When Yoshiro is defiled, there is an outline of the mirror when you can retry:

The file name says it's a mirror.

From wikipedia:
A Shinto mirror (神鏡, Shinkyou) is a sacred mirror in Shinto. Some mirrors are enshrined in the main hall of a shrine as a sacred object of the divine spirit, or are placed in front of the deity in a hall of worship.

Cursed Soh emerges from the water below, which is reflective like a mirror.

This Mazo Talisman is clearly depicting Amaterasu, isn't it? Why is she the one holding us up to protect us from toxic damage?

Why do we not see more depictions of the Mountain Goddess? Instead, Yoshiro is seen as the Goddess and the defilement shows many images of Buddhas.

I wrote this post before Cursed Soh's commentary was revealed.

Are Yoshiro and Soh the mirror?

Name Cards: Soh & Cursed Soh. (Lotus & Water Lily?)

Cursed Soh
Soh

Cursed Soh has lotus leaves on hers. But why?

I thought it had to do with lotus's booming in muddy waters. (defilement)

I asked ChatGPT to see what it says.

In Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, that contrast feels very intentional symbolically.

A lone lotus blossom on Soh’s normal name card suggests an idealized or purified state:

  • spiritual clarity,
  • devotion to the Maiden,
  • transcendence above corruption,
  • a singular sacred purpose.

When the “Cursed Soh” version includes lotus leaves around the flower, it changes the symbolism from a pure emblem into part of a living pond ecosystem. Lotus leaves are closer to the muddy water the lotus grows from, so visually they can imply:

  • connection to impurity or the earthly realm,
  • being surrounded by corruption instead of rising above it,
  • a return to origin or instinct,
  • spiritual burden rather than pure transcendence.

Because lotus leaves are broad, shadowing, and rooted to the water surface, they also create a more enclosed feeling. The flower alone feels elevated and clean; the flower with leaves feels immersed.

There’s another layer too: in Buddhist imagery, the lotus flower is often the enlightened state, while the pond/leaves/stems represent the cycle of suffering and worldly existence that enlightenment emerges from. “Cursed Soh” having both could symbolize someone pulled back into the mire instead of remaining detached from it.

Visually, it also makes Cursed Soh’s emblem feel denser and more organic — less like a sacred crest and more like something overgrown or overtaken. That fits the game’s recurring themes of defilement, transformation, and purification rituals.

Very interesting information from a robot.

The arena is also watery, which was the first thing I thought of.

Soh's flower has a stem and is shaped very slightly different to Cursed Soh's.

!!! Cursed Soh's might be a Water Lily and Soh's a Lotus! It explains why Soh's has a stem. To show it's rising above water. Cursed Soh's is on the water, alongside its leaves.

This could be another 'two things which are mistaken for each other'. Another would be Cursed Soh's name which could be a reference to the Sal tree. A tree which has a substitute in Japan.

Another discovery I made much later:

Soh's flower is the same as Cursed Soh's here:

no stem

Maybe it was a design error and the flowers are meant to be the same...?

They disappear from their cards! (Kunitsu-Gami beta?)

I found this video in the Kunitsu-Gami files. It looks to be an earlier version of the game.

The Spirit Path looks different and the Woodcutters disappear from their cards once placed. (very cute)

Is it just me or does Soh also look a bit smaller?

Yoshiro's Red Markings/Tattoo.(入れ墨)

In files, it's called 'irezumi'(入れ墨) in files. Tattoo.

The full design can't be seen. It gets cut off where she has no body and where her chest area is blacked out.

She's crying. :(

The pain must be terrible.

But still, she remains determined to fulfill her duty...

呪 and 宗.

center of the chest

宗 Can also be read as 'mune', which also sounds like chest/heart.

Center. Chest.

(Am I understanding this correct? The kanji can be read as 'mune' which can sound like chest?)

Soh is the origin and source, and possibly her ancestor. Is Soh simply the previous Maiden who is the new Goddess and the source of Yoshiro's power? Or is she a part of the Goddess, with Yoshiro as the other half? Or is she the Goddess, fragmented?

The curse kanji can be read as 'soh':

The kanji 詛, meaning curse, can be read as Soh. Totally wrong! There's a difference between 'so' and 'soh'!! Sorry!!

呪 is the main kanji used for curse in the game, appearing when Yoshiro is attacked and Soh is depowered.

But Soh wears that kanji on her Outset armor. There's also the impurity pattern on her clothing(not just her mask).

The Seethe are called the Goddess's kin and many have the impurity pattern on them.

They can steal the Goddess's power and they drop crystal orbs, the Goddess's power.

"...people and gods, gods and Seethe, and misfortune and fortune are two sides of the same coin."

Everything flips when the time comes.

...could the ritual be about absorbing and containing the defiled Goddess who has become cursed? Why is her presence in everything, including the Seethe?

Or is it about purifying her?

Impurity Pattern: Mōryō(魍魎).

According to game files, the impurity pattern is actually the geometrical pattern of 'Mōryō'(魍魎). Malicious water spirits.

The talisman we get upon defeating Cursed Soh is also Iso Onna(磯女), another water yokai.

It has the pattern on it as well.
