To walk the Path must be a terrifying thing.
The music of Kunitsu-Gami accurately conveys these feelings of dread. But also of hope; the happy and sweet disposition of Yoshiro and the calm and comforting presence of Soh.
Animations imply a tender and intimate relationship between the two Maidens who both seem to be quite cheerful. Soh making Yoshiro laugh and offering words of comfort and advice in the tent. Yoshiro smiling, clapping and humming and dancing in the tent.
It's terrifying but to look upon the Messenger is to look upon your future. You'll return again to guide the next Maiden on the same path you once walked.
And of course, you're guided by an ancestor...you're not alone, not ever.
When I replayed the game on a NG, I felt sad again...
(Oh, no one can see Soh. When Yoshiro travels through these places in the Mountain, one sees a lone Maiden...and when she dances, somehow Seethe drop dead. I like to think about how it must look to the villagers. The Burial Grounds stage with only the carpenter, to him is Yoshiro somehow battling these Seethe just by dancing? I wish I could see into his mind.)
